Friederike Schulte, Director, Carl-Schurz-Haus - From the Black Forest to the North Sea!
For more than fifteen years, Director Friederike Schulte has led the Carl-Schurz-Haus with such heart, wit and skill but, sadly, she is now stepping down. In the summer Friederike will move to Pellworm in the North Sea - an island where sheep outnumber people, the sky knows no bounds, and life beats to a different, quieter rhythm! She will be sorely missed by all those of us who know her and had the good fortune to spend time collaborating with her and the CSH team on a number of projects.
It will be hard to look back on those years and not be reminded of Friederike! The legacy she leaves behind is a credit to her commitment to the Carl-Schurz-Haus - from refining the cultural program between Germany and the United States, with its wide variety of multicultural events (even during the Corona pandemic), to improving the library, hosting events, activities and educational programs and establishing a professional team, Friederike’s direction has been instrumental in making the Carl-Schurz-Haus what it is today.
Members of the Coordinating Team, on behalf of the Network, bid a fond farewell to Friederike in her office, surprising her in a meeting with incoming Director Roman Seebeck. Moving to the North Sea can be a chilly affair, so what better gift to present to Friederike than a special bottle of GlenAllachie single malt from Scotland’s Speyside which, we have on a connoisseur’s authority, will keep away the severest chills! She seemed pleased with our choice!
Interrupting Friederike’s meeting gave the CT the added bonus of meeting Roman Seebeck who promises to continue the collaboration between CSH and the Network even though he is a man! Here’s to the next fifteen years!
